NORTH SIDE RESIDENTS PLAY VOLLEYBALL
The Cayman Islands Volleyball federation (the “CIVF”) introduced their inaugural District Volleyball Showcase on Saturday May 1, which was fully supported by the North Side community. In a bid to introduce the sport of volleyball to the outer districts, event organizer and liaison Tracy Ebanks states that they were overwhelmed by the show of support from the North Side community, from which individuals were given the opportunity to showcase their skills on the court, with proper guidance from Federation Members and Players.
“We were overwhelmed by the show of support, and the raw talent that was on display,” stated National Team Member and Player, Shervin Rankin. “This will only increase our efforts to bring the sport to the outer districts, where we enhance the sport’s development, and eventually aid our recruitment process for future national teams. We will also like to convey our thanks to Mrs. Marcia Hulse and Mr. Bryan Watler, who encourage the North Side youth, to go to the volleyball courts almost everyday.”
Mrs. Pauline Greene, a native of North Side, and Secretary of the CIVF expressed her appreciation for the support offered by the North Side residents. “It is very evident that the North Side players take their game very seriously, as shown by the turnout for the event. This is definitely a positive step for the development of volleyball in our islands."
On completion of the exhibition match, young players were presented with much needed Volleyball equipment, they then went on to playing a few friendly yet competitive matches and ended the night with some good old fashion tea.
